Established in 1891, the town is self-sufficient and home to eclectic residents of all ages, interests, and occupations.

With distinctive food celebrating the history and influence of Mexican restaurants, Fonda San Miguel was one of the first restaurants in the country to serve the complex specialties and full flavors of Mexican cuisine. Of international and national fame, the restaurant keeps up with Mexico’s constantly evolving dishes and maintains the value of authenticity. Épicerie Café & Grocery is a farm-to-table eatery with an ever-changing menu. The restaurant combines French and Louisiana cuisine into something fresh and unexpected.
Adding a Southern flare to contemporary Asian fare, The Peached Tortilla serves many unique dishes and provides a venue space and full-service catering. It has a casual atmosphere with a retro style. Foreign & Domestic has a busy, funky design and serves Texas flavors and American European cuisine. The restaurant believes in using the best ingredients possible from local farms.
With a menu that fluctuates with the seasons, ASTI Trattoria is a pizza and beer parlor popular in Austin. It serves fresh flavors and traditional dishes, while more than 60 wines are represented on its list. Hyde Park Bar & Grill opened in 1982 with high-quality fare and fresh ingredients. The menu combines vegetarian dishes, bistro cuisine, and comfort food.
Things to Do
Shoal Creek is Austin’s metropolitan watershed running south from The Domain to MoPac Expressway. It covers 11 miles and has several trails for bikers, runners, and walkers, including Shoal Creek Trail, which is the oldest trail in the city. Named after a settler, Seider Springs Greenbelt is the beginning of the Shoal Creek Trail. It is known for the springs flowing from its limestone ledge.
Boasting much open grassy space perfect for a picnic, Triangle Park has a play fountain for the kids and many areas for walking and relaxing. It has a field and bocce courts, in addition to hosting Austin’s Farmers Market every Wednesday. Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park has tennis and basketball courts, picnic tables, a playground, and a pool. It is a popular local hangout.
With walking paths, open spaces, and a retention pond, the Great Northern Dog Park is a great place for dogs to play, run, and have fun. The Hancock Golf Course is one of Texas’s oldest golf courses, having opened in 1899. The nine-hole course winds through beautiful views and well-maintained greens. The course is a par 35.
